Goal:

Our client, an industrial materials company, constructs manufacturing plants on customer sites across the globe. To properly maintain the plants and allow customers to order replacement parts, they need to load equipment lists and bills of material into their material requirements planning system.

Unique Challenges:

Our customer manages hundreds of pieces of equipment and collects bills of material that run into the tens of thousands of items. Gathering the information and loading it into the production planning and inventory control system was a major chore.

Solution:

DataWorks developed a tool in Microsoft Access that streamlined the data entry process, eliminated duplicate entries, validated the data and organized it for the load, and helped manage purchase requests.

Results:

The tool DataWorks developed allows our customer to:

  • Easily collect, format, and load large amounts of information into one tracking system
  • Minimize the amount of time required to enter and maintain the data
  • Save over $10,000 per project on many projects, as demonstrated by key performance indices developed for the tool
